Post-Laminectomy Syndrome

Post-laminectomy syndrome,  also called “failed back surgery syndrome,” is a type of chronic pain. It can develop in some people after spine surgery.

Symptoms:

  • Muscle spasm due to trauma or poor muscle conditioning
  • Arthritis of the spinal (facet) joints
  • Disc herniation
  • Painful instrumentation (for example, when metal has been used to secure a spinal fusion)
  • Surgical complications such as bleeding or infection

Treatment Options

  • Epidural steroid injection
  • Dorsal column or spinal cord stimulation
  • Sacroiliac joint injection
  • Personalized bracing
  • Facet injections or ablations
