Post-Laminectomy Syndrome
Post-laminectomy syndrome, also called “failed back surgery syndrome,” is a type of chronic pain. It can develop in some people after spine surgery.
Symptoms:
- Muscle spasm due to trauma or poor muscle conditioning
- Arthritis of the spinal (facet) joints
- Disc herniation
- Painful instrumentation (for example, when metal has been used to secure a spinal fusion)
- Surgical complications such as bleeding or infection
Treatment Options
- Epidural steroid injection
- Dorsal column or spinal cord stimulation
- Sacroiliac joint injection
- Personalized bracing
- Facet injections or ablations
